National Night Out is a community-policing awareness-raising event in the United States\, held the first Tuesday in October. \;The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.
\n\nThe National Night Out event will be held throughout the community on \;Tuesday\, Oct. 3\, 2017\, from 6 p.m. \;until dark. National Night Out is a public safety program that fosters crime prevention by fostering communication and partnerships among neighbors and public safety officials. Traditionally\, block parties are held within communities during the evening of the event. Community members host a variety of events from simple to the extravagant in hopes of encouraging participation and attendance. Some plan ice cream socials with fun and games for children while others host hamburgers and hot dogs. Throughout the evening\, police officers\, fire fighters\, EMS personnel\, members of the city staff and elected city leaders attend to visit with the community.
\n\nDuring the visit\, community members have an informal opportunity to visit with the staff and leaders that represent and serve them. Additionally\, children have an opportunity to visit with emergency responders\, learn valuable safety information\, and explore the emergency vehicles. In addition to our traditional block parties\, the department will host a \;party downtown at the City Square Park. This event will attract those who live in the central part of the city and is being touted as the center-point for local businesses that are active in the community and support crime prevention and public safety. \; We hope to see you for the 34th \;anniversary of National Night Out in Kyle!
